Frequently asked questions

Is an ounce the same as a fluid ounce?
No. An ounce measures weight and a fluid ounce measures volume. They match only for water and liquids like it: 1 fluid ounce of water weighs about 1 ounce. A cup of flour is 8 fluid ounces but weighs only about 4 1/2 ounces.
How many grams are in a cup of flour?
About 125 grams of all-purpose flour, spooned into the cup and leveled. A cup of granulated sugar is about 200 grams.
How many grams are in an ounce?
28.35 grams. For cooking, 28 grams is close enough, and a pound is about 454 grams.
Can I see a recipe in metric?
Yes. Every recipe page has a US and Metric switch next to the ingredients, along with servings that scale the amounts.
