Swedish home cooking is built around two things this site loves: the cold-water shrimp and salmon of the North Atlantic, and simple, deeply seasoned meat dishes. Here you will find Toast Skagen and the open-faced shrimp sandwich, cured gravlax, meatballs in cream gravy with lingonberries, allspice beef stew and the classic Thursday pea soup.
The bread recipes cover the Swedish coffee break, or fika: cinnamon and cardamom buns, saffron buns for Lucia Day, cream-filled semlor, a sweet orange-scented rye loaf and crisp knäckebröd. Most of the main dishes are served the Swedish way, with boiled or mashed potatoes, lingonberry jam and quick pickled cucumber.
Fika is the Swedish coffee break, and it deserves a good cup. Our Fika Dax designs from Shortsleeve.com put a bright folk-art Dala horse and a steaming cup on the things you reach for at coffee time.
