Pan of baked cheeseburger sliders on golden sesame-topped rolls with pickles

Sliders are the easiest way to feed a game-day crowd. Instead of shaping a dozen tiny patties, the beef is pressed into one thin layer, baked, then sandwiched in a whole slab of sweet rolls with cheese.

Brushed with garlic butter and sesame seeds, they come out golden and are easy to pull apart.

Instructions

  1. Bake the beef. Heat the oven to 400°F. Mix the beef, onion, salt, pepper and garlic powder and press into an even layer in a 9 x 13-inch baking dish. Bake 15 to 18 minutes, until cooked through (160°F). Drain.
  2. Assemble. Slice the slab of rolls in half horizontally. Set the bottom half in a clean baking dish, top with half the cheese, the beef, the remaining cheese and pickles. Add the top half of the rolls.
  3. Top and bake. Brush with melted butter, sprinkle with sesame seeds and bake 10 to 12 minutes, until golden and the cheese is melted.
  4. Serve. Cut into individual sliders and serve with ketchup and mustard.

Estimated per slider (the recipe makes 12 sliders), using USDA FoodData Central values for each ingredient. Net carbs are carbohydrates minus fiber. Optional ingredients, garnishes and anything served on the side are not included, and marinades are counted at about a third because most is discarded. Brands and portion sizes change the numbers.

Tips

  • Lift the cooked beef out of its pan with two spatulas to keep it in one sheet.
  • Add a spread of burger sauce on the bottom rolls.

Storage and leftovers

Refrigerate up to 3 days. Reheat wrapped in foil in a 350°F oven for 10 to 15 minutes; the microwave makes the rolls chewy.
